Need help deciding egg $$

:| I'm very torn on what to sell eggs for. I have been talking it over with my bossman and trying to figure out the price to seel our eggs for. What do you folks sell yours for? I have heard some many variations on price I need a hand.. Thanks.

It all depends on the market in your area. I live way out in the country and am surrounded with commercial chicken houses. $1 a dozen is all my market will pay. It doesn't even cover the cost of feed but it is enough to help especially since the majority of my layers free range and so I save some on feed. But some folks who live close to the city or have a specialized market or farmers market can get up to $3 a dozen or more. Ask around to some of the people you would want to sell to, like neighbors or friends, and ask what they would be willing to pay. Or check out your local farmers market and ask what they sell theirs for.

I just started selling eggs at our local farmers market and I also had a hard time, deciding how much to sell for…I had been just giving all my eggs away to family and friends. Here is how I came up with my prices…
First off, you do have to consider your market. How plentiful are fresh eggs in your area? Then I went to the most expensive store in my area, Whole Foods, and the cheapest store in my area, Walmart, and priced their eggs. I then asked people in my market area what they thought was a fair price. I came up with $2.75 a dozen at the market, which was a price that was in between the most expensive and cheapest store price in my area. If I sell from my home, I charge $2.00 a dozen because I am not having to cover the booth price $10.00 or my time. Yes, I have had a few people turn up their noses to the price but then some people say, “Keep the quarter,” and pay $3.00 for the dozen. So far I have sold out every day I have gone to the market; this pass Saturday I sold 34 dozen eggs!
