So sad, we had a new hen sitting on three babies in a small pin outside of their large coop - they literally live in a wine cellar that is a fortress. She was taken shortly after dark. 2 of the 3 chicks are gone. There are feathers all over the area and a trail leading to a wooden fence which has a small opeing with blood and feathers on each side. Clearly something drug her off and the 2 chicks. We have 2 boxers and there were 3 of us home when it happened, no one heard anything and it looks like it was brutal. A new mom would have put up a fight! It was dark and the rooster was in the coop with the flock and she was still outside alone with her babies. So, we think she never saw it coming. We live by the Potomac River. I am thinking Fox of raccoon. the dogs killed one by the fence last week, What you all think? I need ot know the predator so I begin to hunt it down!

Were they free ranging? Pics of run where they were taken from?
Could have been anything, put out a live trap large enough for a raccoon or fox.
