I didn't know there was any place that didn't have aeriaL PREDATORS.You're lucky with the exception of the humans obviously. My neighbors have never messed with my chickens or hurt anything fortunately. It would take a psycho to kill someones chickens
Kestrals here are abnormally small (like many specieis of animals as we dont have fresh water and they adapt), so even a 2 day old chick would be a stretch, pearly eyed thrather (size of a cardinal) are territorial- but dont attack chickens, no crows, ravens- just a lot of water birds like seaducks, ibis, herons (all not threats, in fact Henry a night crowned heron grazes WITH my chickens, they are buddies)-
On the other side of the island there are some hawks, but we have a couple microclimate on a very small island, and they stay directly on the west side.
It was a calculated move—meant to intimidate me and force a land grab. My property is seaside with direct walkout access, unlike most spots on the island that sit high on cliffs with no water entry. The two men behind it want my land for their illegal hotels, to offer guests charter tours and similar perks to explore the coral reef. Their plan was to destroy everything I valued so I’d sell in desperation. Instead, it completely backfired.
And then there was the other asshat who stole my chicken and sold it (the gate was open during a time when we were constructing a casita on our property and one of the workers friends litterally told her to jump in the car and she complied as she was just too friendly). Tame chickens- in perfect health, of egg laying age (as feed here is 80 bucks a bag), worth its weight in gold. Feral chickens are every 20 feet, it is the docile ones people keep in their homes.
My new and still biggest threat is hermit crabs. So everyone is different but you cant take a step without stepping on a hermit crab- and they go nuts for chicken feet and pinch (oh yes, it hurts and can draw blood) when the chickens go to eat.
