Need Help Fast!! Gasping chicken!

Hi, little Roughian, I was just reading something on "Tilliesnest.com and found something interesting I didnt know - it said that if your chickens eat slugs, they can get "Gapeworms" Slugs, Snails and Earthworms are carriers of the gapeworm which it says is a red round worm that attaches it self to the Trachea and cause the birds to gasp for air or breath with their mouths open and it can kill them. (which we know Worms are bad - but I didnt know that Slugs and snails carry them )and it will be impossible to keep
my birds from eating them my yard and property is full of them. I was actually feeding them the snails I found in my garden (until the shell in throat incident) But that my have been the cause of little Stewies illness? just sharing info - Has anyone heard of this? from Slugs & snails?
