We are newbies to the chicken and duck world. I have 2 pekin ducklings that are 6 weeks old in a few days and don't know if they are male or female. Can anyone help? Is it too early to tell? They both are quacking now but I can't tell the difference.

Females tend to quack loudly and drakes will be raspy when they quack. Males will be bigger and eventually they will get the curled drake feather in their tail.

If they both are the same size and quack loudly than I would guess they are both females, but things can change and they are young yet.

The one on the left is bigger and the head at times seems to be shaped different. But it could be the yellow fuzz still on the head also. At times they can be loud then at times they could be quiet. Its hard to tell to a rookie like me. One likes to be held and the other runs like we about to kill it. It hops, skips, and jumps! Fun to watch! As long as we have one female I will be happy.

It's been a few years since I had pekin. I would give them another couple of weeks and you should be able to tell by size and quack. Also drakes will often have thicker legs too.

You have made me want some more one day.
