I noticed one of my hens had stopped laying eggs lately (or so I thought). I attributed it to the hot weather, but this morning I went to the coop and saw her sitting in the back. She kind of moved a little and I heard eggs rolling underneath her. She moved a little and one cracked open. She began eating it so I removed it as best I could. She didn't move off of the other eggs though. Then a few minutes later she got up and went out of the coop to eat. I haven't seen her go back inside all day. Is this normal or has she decided to forget about the eggs since I tampered with the broken one? It is about 95 degrees out there today so maybe it's too hot to stay inside?
Also, what should I do with her if she decides to sit on them? Should I isolate her from the others or just leave her alone. After she hatches them do I just leave them out there with her? This is my first time doing this so I am kinda clueless, lol.
Thanks!!

If she is going broody, you need to make sure she will "stick" on the nest before you let her incubate eggs.
Is she fluffed out like a cotton ball? Does she flatten out like a pancake and raise her wings when you or other hens approach? My broody growls at me but is not aggressive- others get very mean.

A good broody will sit tight and get up once a day to eat, drink, and poop. Sometimes they dont get up regularly so I kick them out once a day. Let her sit on the nest for at least a few days to make sure that is what she wants to do. Remove all the eggs everyday (the other hens tend to lay new ones in with a broody) and then give them back all at once if she is dedicated.

She is definately more aggressive towards the other chickens. She will almost throw them out of the coop and doesn't want them to come inside near her eggs. She never was like this before. But she has been roaming around all day with the others in the run, although I have seen her go inside a time or two for a few minutes, maybe to check on the nest? I was worried that I may have disturbed her this morning because right after I looked in on her, she came outside.

When she is ready to really set, you could run a marching band through the coop and she would not budge. Most broodies will spend no more than 10-15 minutes off the next once or twice a day, then run full force back inside. Maybe her hormones are not quite high enough yet and she is just transitioning, so give her time. Has she pulled out breast feathers to line the nest, too?
Some types of chickens have had too much instinct bred out of them and never get all the behaviors down right- they should not be given eggs as they will abandon the nest and then it is all your responsibility to finish the incubation or set up a brooder. Others are brooding machines and make it look like a walk in the park. Wait it out and see what she has in her before you decide.

She is a black australorp. I don't know too much about this breed. I see lots of feathers inside the coop but they aren't lining her nest. I just didn't know if I should remove the eggs or leave them be. I was also wondering about the rooster who fertilized the eggs. He is a Cornish X I got from a commercial farm when he was 3 days old. The same time that she started this behavior, he decided to become VERY aggressive and spurring me every time I come near this hen. Is it possible for the fertilizing rooster to get more aggressive as a result of the developing chicks, or does he not have a clue? Kind of a weird question, maybe it's just a coinsidence.
I had no clue that the Cornish X could even breed a hen, since he is quite large, lol.
