I got 2 baby ducks at Tractor Supply on March 25th. They are now 2 weeks old. One has grown so fast he is at least 4 times his size, which seems like a problem for him as his legs are weak. He can stand and walk but he's wobbly and will collapse when he gets tired. Can anyone help or suggest anything I can do to help him. I read something about giving brewers yeast to help metabolize protein. ???
I feed them chicken feed and give them meal worms for treats. Any suggestions are appreciated!
The other duck seems to be growing at a normal rate and does not have any problems with its legs.
Thank You

You should try some niacin supplement first. What are you feeding them? Ducklings and goslings are very susceptible to niacin deficiency. Regular chick starter just won't cut it. Brewer's/nutritional yeast is indeed a source of niacin, and safe for the duckies. I use ground niacin (B3) tablets for my babies. How much you put in depends on the amount of food you are giving and the dosage of the tablets you buy. Be sure you get dosage right; you can hurt your babies by giving them too much. Also, be sure the food is a little damp before mixing it in...otherwise the powder just settles to the bottom.

Also, if he's too tired/weak to support his weight, water is excellent physical therapy while you are treating him and helping him recover. Plop him in some tepid/lukewarm water a couple times a day if he can manage to swim. Just be sure to watch him while he's in there and make sure he doesn't get tired. Pat him dry and make sure he's warm until he's completely fluffed, you don't want him getting chilled.

Keep us updated! Good thoughts for little one.
