Need help "helping' my son choose a show bird

I'm not great on all the breeds you have, but I can tell you that the silkies aren't super "typey" for showing, but they are darn cute for sure. Polish A has broken feathers that will count against in both showmanship and exhibition. Of the polish, I like the pullet B. Of all the birds, I like the barnvelder "c" as well. The other breeds...I don't know enough about to give any good input. I like Australorp B, but I know very little about that breed....just that I like that bird :)

all look fairly young.
all of the Araucanas are ee's.
i personally would use either barred rock c

i have never shown in showmenship

Thanks all! So glad to know those are not Araucana (that is what I ordered so I guess I'll mention it next time I place an order).
I do like the Barnevelders best so maybe I will have him use C for his exhibition and the Polish pullett for his showmanship since she is cuddley enough to be handled by my son. I did not know broken feathers were a bad mark but that makes sense (slap my forehead DUH). The cockeral was being picked on and older roo but that was taken care of. Will his feathers be broken until he molts then?

That is what I would do. You can enter the polish in both the exhibition and still use her for showmanship. My girls just had their first fair this last weekend and had so much fun. It was a learning experience for sure! My oldest did pretty good for her first show, but we were happily surprised that her bird took home first place in exhibition.

He will need to know the steps of showmanship and knowledge about his bird, her breed, what is good about her and what is bad about her, your feed program, and general information about chickens. Good luck to you both!
