Hi,
I purchased several RIR chicks from local person 3 months ago. I did some research later date and many place consider production red as RIR. I am 70% sure these are purebred RIR after my research, but again could be wrong. The purebred getting rare so I do want keep this breed for sometime.

1) Can you tell me if these are Purebred RIR or Production Red?

2) Which rooster should keep if these are purebred (top, middle, or bottom photo) ? My choice would be either top or bottom one. The middle rooster color is not dark enough.

Thanks.

They are pretty dark in these pictures. If I had to take an educationed guess on this one yes they are pure RIR. But, in the pictures it's hard to tell. I find that in natural daylight you can tell better. I have production Reds too and they are much lighter in color than yours appear to be in the photo. Maybe another RIR specialist will chime in.

They could be R.I. Reds. (but still could be from a hatchery) Are you wanting these birds as as pets of to show?
If you are going to try to show them I will say from what I see all of them even the hens have major faults which makes me think that either these birds came from a hatchery or the breeder that didn't know what they were doing and or didn't breed to the breed standard.

As witch one to keep it is hard to say not knowing what you are going to use them for.
If you could, take a side profile picture of them (standing as natural as possible)
As for darkness I don't think any that you have are all that dark but but better pictures would help..

My original plan was for good egg production, but after some reading about RIR I want purebred. I know these probably not show bird. I just replace new photos. They are not good because the tree shade.
