So, I started out by buying a mature German New Hampshire rooster and hen (both were just under 2 years of age).
After trying to hatch out 3 batches of eggs in the incubator, and candling them at the appropriate time, none were fertile ... no chicks! This was crossing my roo with my GNH hen, a black sex link hen, and a red sex link hen.
Was put in touch with Cathy Gleeson who loaned me a German New Hampshire roo to cross with my GNH hen, and THAT did the trick ... I now have 7 chicks.
Now, here's the problem ... to be sure the infertility was the fault of my rooster and not my GNH hen, I crossed the loaner roo to my GNH hen and the red sex link hen (removing my roo and the black sex link hen from the coop), and I've ended up with chicks that I can't identify the difference between those that are GNHs and Roo x Red Sex Links. They all look so similar.
I want to sell those that are not pure GNHs, but I don't want to let the wrong breed go (because I can't tell them apart)!!
I'm also curious as to which are pullets and which are cockerels ... they are just over 8 weeks old (hatched out on May 10th), as I plan to keep one or two GNH cockerels and all the GNH pullets.
There's one out of the entire bunch that has darker wings, and one that is very light (with many white feathers) ... the rest look so similar.
Can someone help me to identify which is which if I can figure out how to post pictures?
