So I recently purchased a couple of chickens. I noticed that my buff orpington had these little bugs on her feathers. I bathed her with baby shampoo yesterday. I saw a few of them in the sink and they seemed dead. Well today I noticed she still has them on her skin and feathers. Does anyone know what these may be and how I can treat her and the rest of my flock? Btw I had sprinkled diatomaceous earth on her a couple of times about 4 and 5 days ago. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Permethrin dust or spray.
DE won't do squat.
Look closely at area around vent for eggs.
Google images of lice/mites and their eggs.

I agree. Not knowing your location and what may be available to you. If you have a TSC you can get permethrin in concentrate, premixed and poultry dust. It will probably take a few weekly applications. Also, it doesn't kill the pests eggs so repeat weekly treatments are needed. I also put the poultry dust in my nest boxes. Good luck...
