Fishkill NY
I got my first batch of chicks at a local feed store a month ago, on November 1st. I bought six chicks and the owner gave me one extra for free. ( she had a scar on the top of her head, was definitely a little older than the rest I brought home).

**aside from the Silkies, I’m not sure he was 100% accurate on the breeds)
First batch (7 chicks)
2- Silkies
2 - Sapphire Blues
2 - White Leghorns (1 is questionable breed wise)
1
- Isa Brown (“extra chick”- BREED QUESTIONABLE *

Photos
#1 Cinnamon (Silkie)
#2 Chippy (Silkie)
#3 Sapphire (Sapphire Gem..so original
# 4 Stormy (Sapphire Gem)
# 5 Buttercup ( White Leghorn?)
# 6 Buttercup & Daisy *Side by side*
# 7 Daisy (White Leghorn? Doubt it)
#8-9 Rusty- Isa Brown ?

Any information on these chicks would be great. Of course this is them when they were only a few days..as they grow each week (all about 4 weeks now) does my list of questions. So if there’s anything anyone can tell me about there breed/sex it would be so greatly appreciated.

This is batch #1. I felt bad that the lone “Isa Brown” was the odd ma out so my intentions were to go in and get 1 chick the same as her, about 5 days later I went back and got (what I was told).

3 Americuanas
2 LEGITIMATE MYSTERY BREEDS
1 white leghorn

But I will save batch # 2 for a separate post.

Also way too early to tell gender, post again when they are 6-8 weeks, even later for silkies as they are notoriously difficult to sex.
I agree with everyone above on breeds. But what makes you question Daisy and Rusty's breeds? Just wondering because it's hard to tell when they are just little chicks.
They sure are cute!

Im sorry yes they are completely out of order! So I labeled the pictures the only reason I’m questioning them is because they are now currently about 4 weeks (this first batch in pics posted).

When I got my 2nd batch of chicks (5) I got one Isa Brown for Rusty and the new Isa Brown looks nothing like Rusty did as a chick and as she’s growing more feathers in she has no resemblance to Rusty at all or any of the pictures I’ve seen of Isa Browns. (I’m not even sure if Rusty is an Isa Brown that’s just what I’ve was told) Just one of the reasons I’m questioning. Besides the Sapphire Gems and the Silkies, I do believe the White leghorns are what they are now. I was questioning Daisy & Buttercup because Daisy is now ENORMOUS double the size of Buttercup... but I just found out today that “she” is a “he” I noticed a small pink wattle coming in under “his” chin.

. **Also I found out recently that the shop I purchased them at the owner apparently doesn’t know what’s what or who’s who, one lady told me she got 4/5 roosters from there even though he garentees they are hens**
(haven’t posted pics yet) And obviously they’ve been changing so much week to week, it I’ve I just was trying to not confuse anyone so I figured I would do this in order ( as in pics of 1st batch of chicks (7) than I will post the pictures I took this morning of those first (7). Than on to the next batch hopefully, but I really appreciate any help !

*BRAHMACHICKEN5000
No pics of the Americanas in that post. They are apart of my second batch that I haven’t gotten too yet but will soon! Hopefully they are what I was told but either way they are beautiful

Is it just me, or does everybody appear to be their supposed breed at this point? Cinnamon/Chippy are Silkies, Sapphire/Stormy look to be Sapphire Gems, Daisy/Buttercup scream Leghorn, and Rusty is a Red Sex Link of sorts. :)

Too early yet in the game to be sure of gender. Are you able to update us in another few weeks? (the Silkies may take much longer than the other breeds, as is their nature)

~Alex

I’m sorry again for not getting to the point as quickly as I should, I’m just trying to basically run through my first experience and buying chicks. I guess my posts are a little confusing. I purchased my first 7 (shown in the photos I posted) from a feed store nearby. I’ve never had the opportunity to raise chicks until now barely being able (at that point) to name 5 different breed of chicken. I had no idea how many breeds there were!
I brought them hope 4 days later I had to go back I got 5 more
This batch I was told
2 Americanas
2 Mystery Chicks (owner never answered me on that one)
1 Isa Brown ( that looks nothing like the first Isa Brown/Red Sex Link.
Last week I heard from a neighbor who has chickens that some of her friends had bad experiences with the owner/ store I got my chicks from. Not knowing what breeds he has, selling a lot of roosters, ect.
My point (sry) is that I don’t know what this guy sold me!!! PLUS IM SUPER CURIOUS AS TO WHAT THEY ARE AND WHAT THEYLL BE LIKE WHEN FULL GROWM!!
I’m proud to say though they look to me to be all happy healthy chicks. Although 1 little “Josephine” is a bit stunted BUT I’m determined to keep her/him healthy and hoping to watch her/him grow very soon.

I HAVE TO DISAGREE ON THE SILKIES. I KNOW IM AN AMATEUR AT IDENTIFYING CHICK BREEDS BUT I AM almost on both I HAVE TO POST MORE PICTURES, Those don’t do (Chippie) justice he’s got a nice little poof on his head, black skin and hairy legs lol

And yes here’s updated pics of all of them (both batches lol) they are all around 3-4 weeks now! I just kind of grabbed a bunch so everyone is kind of thrown together . Daisy is the giant (leghorn) who has barely any feathers at the moment (molting?) “HES” huge definitely rooster right ?
RUSTY (ISA BROWN)? ?IS ALSO HUGE LOL but I think she’s a hen. Buttercup is the less angular of the other leghorns and also has a bigger comb . Angel is batch 2s Leghorn the pointy one lol she’s got a lot of white, long wings. Chippie (THE SILKIE With spots on head)) is in there somewhere he’s the questionable Silkie . The 2 Sapphire Gems.

Now the one looks like a pale yellow with brown specks on wings is supposed to be an ISA BROWN like Rusty? Very confusing. The two Americanas and I’m sure someone will disagree are the speckled one with the fuzzy neck (you prob already know though) BUT the other is (my favorite as soon as I saw her it was like seeing an albino dear lol so I had to grab her I didn’t care what the guy claimed she was but she was and still is to me beautiful..shes almost like a pale perrywinkle with pale yellow one her sides and her face looks like a Barn owls face. With her puffy cheeks lol She is supposed to be my 2nd Americana. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF HER IS THER ME ANYTHING YOU COULD TELL ME ABOUT HER IM DYING TO KNOW !

* 2 mystery birds I need to get better shots of. One is my Stunted Josephine and the other is the black bird sitting on the ledge, looks like a raven. He’s the sweetest one of them all I think loves to be held and cuddled.
