Hi all!! I need help to figure out what gender my two 4 1/2 month old RIRs are. I bought them when they were 1 day old from a breeder and he said they were both hens, now I'm not so sure. Neither have started laying or crowing yet, but I'm trying to figure it out before it gets to that point because I live in an area that allows hens but not roosters. Any opinions??

The first picture is of "Scarlett" the second is of "Ginger" and the ones of them together "Ginger" is in front of "Scarlett" in both. Thanks in advance.

I don't know if this helps but here are some pics of them both as babies.

"Ginger" is the smaller one in both pictures and "Scarlett" is the biggest one.

Wow, well that sucks. Not that they aren't beautiful but now I can't keep them and have to regime them. Oh well, thanks all.:idunno

Yeah they are both boys, I'm sorry I know it sucks when you raise them from tiny fuzzy babies and you name them. Just to find out you aren't allowed to keep them when they finally get big and pretty ( not to mention you get attached to them) so I hope you have better luck next time... I'm sending pullet vibes to you lol so hopefully the next ones will be girls! :hugs

thank you wildwestchick. Yeah it sucks because I've had them since they were a day old and have hand raised them and all. But I had my suspicions about them about a month ago when they started trying to "spar" up with each other and then I really thought they were roos when I saw how similar they looked to the rooster I just re-homed. Oh well, there's always a chance, like you said maybe next time.
