Need help in figuring out how to protect her neck

I am looking up if Amprolium is likely to cause skin reactions or rashes.. I am thinking that this chick started scratching at three days old.. and it may make sense for a reaction to take place after about three days of feeding it..perhaps switching over to a non-medicated chick starter may be worth a try..did not find any literature claiming side effects of amprolium yet, but still looking.. will post if I find something..

Thanks for letting me know, and you know what dogs can be allergic to the shots they get to the point of death, so why not chicks, I am just so thankful that she is doing better. hopefully this will break the cycle and she'll be one unitchey chick without the CB.. keep us informed please.

These past three days for some reason the Benadryl is no longer working and neither the Vitamin E.. I still have to understand why some days she is ok, and others she scratches non stop..today she even started a new thing: scratching and sometimes walking backwards as she gets the itchy fit..I have already spent more than 100 dollars on trying to help this chick to no avail.. so frustrated: all I have left to do is try the new food she will be switching to on Friday and purchasing those sort of chick shoes to prevent her from damaging her neck again.. she was this close to healing her wounds and now we are back to start..I just feel like putting her out with the others and let nature run its course; if she is strong she will survive., I just cannot come up with any other way to help her...even my friend's vet has no clue..

I am so sorry, I was hoping because we hadn't heard that she was getting better. Sounds like you have exhausted every avenue, maybe the chick shoes will at least keep her from damaging herself any more. I just don't know what to say.

I wanted to wait a bit to give the good news.. but so far it has been two weeks and she has not scratched anymore and her feathers on her neck have grown beautifully.. I can hardly recognize her from the rest of the flock.. This since she has been sent out free range and fed the non-medicated food.. I am really thinking this was an allergy to the medicine added to the feed to prevent coccidia.or a component in the manna pro.

That is wonderful news.. what a relief. and you might be right on the allergic reaction to the meds in the chick food. wow congratulations on getting her through it all

thank you! and thank you for all your support (moral and tips), you have been very helpful..I hope this comes handy to somebody with the same problem one day..

I'm sure it will and since it is now in the archives we will be able to retrieve it for others. So happy for you and your chick.
