Hi. Does anyone with chickens in the metro detroit area know of a vet I can take my hen to? And does anyone have any advice?

I came home from work, and one of my hens was by herself, soaking wet, and just standing there. I picked her up, and she just laid really heavy in my arms. She laid an egg this morning, and will stand on her own, and drink water or eat when prompted. However, she is now laying on my bathroom floor, sleeping. This is all very out of the ordinary for my little Gerri. I don't know what to do! I tried calling a couple vets, and would be willing to take her somewhere, but no one I call seems to be able to help me.

I don't know anything about it, but if you can't find an avian or poultry vet, there is an online for a fee service through bird.justanswer.com .... I have no idea what they would charge or even if they are any good, but if you're desperate, you might want to try it.

Well, I got her to a vet in Walled Lake, but we lost her.

She died in my lap.
From the x-ray, it looked like an impacted crop. It was just to late to do anything about it.
Now I'm worried about my other 2 girls. I always try to feel the crop area... and it always seems full to me. So I don't really know what it is supposed to feel like. I wish I would have been brave enough to try the oil and massage thing that is always talked about on this board, but I just wasn't sure and thought she would be better off with proper medical care.
She was a sweetie.
