Need help. losing chickens but not sure what is killing them***WARNING GRAPHIC PICS***

...I redid the windows with 2 x4 wire.... It looks like they snap the neck or bite it to kill the chicken then proceed to eat from the backside in....
Sounds like a raccoon to me. He has both the strength, hands, and the manual dexterity to hold a chicken against the wire while he eats what he can access through the 2X4 inch wire.

However a coons' hands and his manual dexterity becomes his downfall when he tries to retrieve desert from the bottom of a Duke DP trap. Coons live in family groups or more precisely colonies. When you catch one coon you may well catch a dozen or more before you thin the population to what the natural environment can support without eating your chickens.

My losses are at night. It was after 10 when i last checked the coop. They leave the rest of the chicken on the ground.
Someone suggested maybe an owl in the barn.

Bingo! That is what my problem turned out to be. Weird how they'd kill & eat select parts of it & leave the rest laying around for you to joyfully discover in the morning! The killed carcass pics looked identical to what the owl did at my place. We have no coons or possums here, thankfully.

I'm in country Australia and we have a lot of hawks around at the moment that are eating mice in the just finished crops. I came home the other day to find my barnavelder looking exactly like the picture you posted. A neighbour said he had seen a hawk hanging around in the tree above the coop. I have since put bird netting over the coop and run.
