Sadly, one of my chickens died today. We had a bad storm here last weekend (trees down all over; tornados) and she hadn't been the same ever since the storm. I separated her from the flock, i started her on antibiotic, and gave her extra tlc but she didn't make it:(

So, I live in an area that only allows 3 hens. Now I have 2!! I really want to have the max 3 hens. What are my options for adding 1 chicken to my flock? Help!! Thank you.

It can be done it's just trickier when adding just one.First you need to quaretine the new girl for awhile then pen her some place where the old girls can see her and start getting used to her for a while. If you can let them free range together for a few days and see how that goes. then if they are doing ok slip on the roost one night after dark and let them wake up together. there will be some pecking going on at first but if its not to bad let it go, they have to work out the pecking order and if you interfere it will just drag it out for a longer period of time. My rule pretty much is if nobody's bleeding leave them alone just make sure that the new girl is being allowed food and water.

Thanks DanEP! I was able to find someone locally who has 12 week old golden comets. We arranged a pick up date for Friday. I will do exactly what you mentioned: quarantine her, have her in the pen where my existing girls can see her, let them roam, sneak her on the roost at night. If all went perfectly, how long do you think it would take?
