Making hard decisions when it comes to a sick chicken

$200 just to have the vet look at her?:duc That does make it hard to make the decision, or at least it certainly would for me. I'm sorry you're dealing with this. My rooster has chronic b'foot. Last year I fussed with it a couple months with no good results. At first he tolerated it pretty well but after a while I could tell me messing with it was hurting him, so I quit. I tried everything. That's been six months ago at least. I looked at it the other day. It's hard and dry so I'm just going to leave it alone. He limps on it a little but not too bad, and he's still chickening and roostering pretty much just fine. He's 4 years old. As long as he's doing okay I'm going to leave him. When he's in pain and suffering, I'll put him down. As long as his quality of life is good, he lives.
Bumblefoot is one of the worst things I've had to deal with so far in my four years of owning chickens. Glad to hear your rooster is still roostering around despite some limping. Reading from other people's experiences, it sounds like BF is really difficult to get rid of completely and some chickens end up with a limp.

I have a feeling my hen will have a limp if she's able to heal from this. I decided not to bring her to the vet afterall because I remembered my living situation will change next month, so my disposable income will be less, and I was able to find doxycycline online and ordered it. The main goal was to get that from the vet, since I was going to reject any X-rays or anything too complex anyway. I think I'd have to clean the wound out though. I'll look up some YouTube videos on how to do that.
