BYC's 2026 Valentine's Day Hatch-Along

Day 5 candling:

Only 2 of 18 eggs were obviously developing. The 2 with obvious development are my BYM bantam eggs. It's still early though so I'm not giving up hope. I'll candle again on day 7, and possibly 10 as well, before I decide if they're duds or not. I will set aside some eggs from my flock to add to the incubator if need be so I don't end up with too few chicks.

I also contacted the seller of the Cream Legbar eggs when they arrived chilled. They said to let them know how things go on day 10 and they'll send a new set for just the cost of shipping if need be.

I don’t want to be a negative person, but I think those eggs are not developing 😞 However, what an awesome breeder, who is willing to replace if they still have no growth at day 10. That is excellent! CCL are so cute, I really want to see some development in the next batch!

I'm thinking the same thing, especially since I saw obvious development in two of my bantam eggs. I'll still candle tomorrow and see if there's anything going on. It could be that the shell is a bit darker making the thin veins hard to see this early.

CCls were the ones I wanted to get from the start last spring, but I waited too long and they were sold out everywhere. That's why I jumped on these when I saw they were available even though I knew the weather was a problem.

I saw a few hopefuls in there. Day 5 I've done a few times and it's just so much easier if we'd be more patient and wait until Day 7 lol.

I was surprised to see the blastoderm with the veins just starting to branch out on 2 of the bantam eggs . . .that's the earliest I've seen development it was pretty cool to see :D
