Need help on housing lone wild Canada goose

Geese are amazing creatures really and quite adaptable. We had a “wild” Canadian goose when I was a kid that my dad found as an injured juvenile. He didn’t fly well so it must have been something with his wing as well. “Honk Honk” moved in & slept with my Pygmy goats at night. After a while I think he forgot he was a goose ;)

So I would think that if you built them a secure shelter that he will eventually move in with his friends.
Honk honk. That’s funny. We call ours Goosey. Lol.
I’ve been feeding him daily.
I don’t spend much time with him because I wanted him to remain wild. But I do speak to him when I approach to feed. He always runs away still. Makes me think it wasn’t a human that hurt his wing. . I’m starting to think with everyone’s input he may just go in there eventually. Fingers crossed!

I think I would start off with something like a dog kennel (run) with a covered top. Leave 2 ends open, so he doesn't feel trapped, and feed them all only inside there. Once he's used to going in there to eat, (hopefully he'll follow the others) then close one of the ends and continue to feed there, and put in a shelter. It could take weeks, or months to get him used to it, but once he is, he should be pretty reliable about using it. You may want to look into getting a permit to keep him, talk to the wildlife folks that said they'd put him down, they may be able to help you. Don't mention, though that you are already feeding him. If you are caught with him, w/o a permit, it can be pretty expensive, and he will likely be confiscated, and you know what will happen then.

You can train geese pretty easy always feed them at their house and offer treats there too I walk behind mine to their house they go in on their own ,when you get their houses and pen done start by offering something they really like as a treat whole corn and dried mealworms work here put it into a container with a lid and when you want them to come shake the dickens out of the can and either whistle or use a word (same word every time for calling them . Start trading them to come home before dark before preds are out really looking for a goose meal. Never leave them out over night a lot of predators will swim for goose. And if your pond does freeze they would be sitting geese out in a open front house. Bles you for helping your goose to heal and for getting him friends. They will live long lives with you some up to 40 yrs but 20 is usually about normal they need protection from predators and now that you have brought home two new ones make friends they are all apart of your family.

Thank you for the tips. I am trying to train Goosey as we speak in preparation for the shelter. The white geese seem somewhat trained already. They kind of walk toward me when I bring food. Not sure if they’re hungry or trying to overpower me lol. Just love these birds. Didn’t expect to given we already have 2 little toddlers and 2 busy shepherds. Oh and we’ve trained our dogs to not chase Goosey so they’re safe in that manner. :)

Wow, so terrific of you too care about this goose. Good luck and sure hope he catches on.
Want to ask though. Why are you trying to not domesticate him? He can't leave anyway. It would make things easier on you if he were.
Keep up the good work. He's lucky to have found you.

Yes I should explain.
Goosey had been living at my back yard since February. Our house probably a good football field away from the pond. The pond surrounded by woods in all sides. Since He was “wild” and going to the center of the pond at dusk for protection and he would still go away from me when I’d go to feed him, I thought it be best for him to remain wild since he needed to protect himself out there all by himself. I thought if I’d domesticate him he would get lax about his surroundings and something could happen to him and I’d never forgive myself.
Hope that makes sense.
I just didn’t want to soften him so he can continue to be vigilant.
Though he hangs around the white geese he still falls back when the white geese approach. It may take a while but now that we plan to build a shelter I’m going to have to earn his trust so I can get him there.

That makes complete sense. Thanks.
