Need help on picking a hatchery

I had heard about that, you're the second person at least to say it that I know of. Okay, efowl is off the list. I think I'm going with Cackle because they have a variety deal that I would like to try out.

I use Cackle & am very happy with their birds. Check out my BYC Page, my Yokahamas, Lakenvelders, Royal Palms, & Blue Slates came from there. I also have mixed breed turks in the pics, so don't be confused, Just the purebreeds came from Cackle.

You have VERY pretty birds birdaholic. Helping me lean furthur and furthur towards ordering from Cackle.

I think I'm going to order some randoms from Cackle, and get placed on the waiting list for BA's. I found some at my feed store and could't leave without them, I am even going back on Monday to pick up the remanining ten that I know are still there. [One of the guys that works up there is my neighbor. Comes in handy when I don't feel like driving all the way into town for feed, hah.]

Also, don't forget Privett in New Mexico. They include shipping prices in the bird prices (Postage Paid) and aren't far from you. I don't order through their website, I use Welp's site as they are the same. We've had good luck with them.

I know nothing about show quality, but....

I ordered 30 chicks from Ideal last year, and most of my others came from Mt. Healthy over the years via feed stores. I have a really nice flock of layers from those 2 sources. I think the Wyandottes (Buff and Columbian) that came from Ideal are a little small, but the Partridge Rocks, Speckled Sussex, EEs, Barnevelders, and Welsummers are very nice hens. Most everything I got from Mt. Healthy has been nice - Golden Laced Wyandottes, Buff Orpingtons, Barred Rocks, RIR, and Black Australorps. Only problem I had with them is the RIRs didn't seem to get along with the others as well as they might have. I got 4 SLWs from them, too - 2 of the supposed pullets were actually roosters; of the four I got one really nice rooster and one really pretty hen - by my standards, not show standards. The other 2 were so-so.

I have 10 3 week-old chicks from Mt. Healthy now - PRs, SS, and GLWs. There is a lot of variation in the size of the 5 PRs and the 2 GLWs. The 3 SS look big and strong. Time will tell on how they compare to the Ideal birds.
