I recently got some very unweight silkies.

I was wondering what was something good to feed them to fatten them up like my other chickens?

I feed mine cracked corn,Scracth,Laying pellets Somtimes treats of oatmeal and yougert.

Would this same food plan fatten these skinny girls up or will they need something more?

Were the silkies underweight when you got them, or losing weight since? Do they eat well? Do they show any signs that they need to be wormed? I'm sure someone with alot more knowledge will be along to comment on what they should be eating. The few silkies I have seen personally seem to be slim, lightweight birds. Maybe they shouldn't be compared to other breeds that have a stouter build, or mature faster.

silkies are a slender bird but these guys are slimer then mine.
They were slender when I got them I will be worming them along with all of mine tomorrow. They seemed very hungery and thirsty when I got them home. They ate alot....

Try a little extra protien, like some cooked, fat-removed meat(beef or pork) cut into 1/8 - 1/4 " cubes. Anything from your dinner table would be acceptable, as long as it's not too salty or full or sugar.

Hello!

For your skinny silkies, I might feed them a mixture of layer feed, plus some chick food with the extra protein to get them going. I don't like to use alot of scratch or cracked corn because that doesn't really have a lot of nutrition--it's more like candy for a chicken. Another thing is, if you have some extra eggs, boil them up and feed them back to the girls....they're really almost all protein.

Good luck with the silkies! I'm sure you'll have them looking good again!

thanks all for the info!

I am gonna try the eggs and meat. Thanks for the advice

Would yorgert be good also? I have some Plain I'v been using for a chick would this also be good for them?

Yogurt is good for a chicken's digestion. Don't think it will fatten them up. I feed mine plain yogurt three times a week. Good luck!

P.S. They'll love the eggs!
