I rescued a mature pot belly pig sow yesterday. She is a big girl who came from squalor! All I was told is she is 1-2 years old, around 75lb, was running with other pigs and a boar, and she could be pregnant. I got her home and settled in. I have the Mauzari (sp) Pot Belly juvenile pig food. Is this ok to give her till I can get some adult feed? Also, is there a way to tell if indeed she is pregnant? How does her body condition look? She is very scared and in approachable. My other pot belly is only about 9 months old and maybe 25 lbs. I am looking to you experienced Pot Belly owners for advice. TIA

I'm not experienced, but I hope I can help. I love pigs!!!!!

If she was with a boar, she is likely pregnant. Pigs are bred to be able to get pregnant twice a year, so if she isn't a mother, she is probably going to be soon. Juvenile food it okay to feed until you can get some adult. You can supplement with some fresh vegetables, protein, fruits, nuts, ect as well.

She looks a little thin compared to most pot-bellies, but its better than being over-weight, as over-weight pigs are prone to all sorts of health problems. Make sure she doesn't have worms or other parasites.

Work towards taming her. Sit 10-20 ft away and read quietly out-loud. Sit with your back or side facing towards her, so she feels secure. Feed her treats by setting them down and then walking away, instead of trying to reach out to her. She will learn to trust you if you show you won't grab at her or try to pet her until she asks to be petted. Try to work yourself closer and closer, show her your other pig interacting with you. Pigs are intelligent, she will learn you mean her no harm.

Best of luck! I'm glad you helped her out!
