as some of you know dogs killed some of my ducks and i am trying to get a price list together of the value of each duck to give to the owner of the dogs.

1 young female laying cayuga-
amount of eggs layed per year-

2 young laying female khakis-

2 young laying female welsh harliquns-
1 young male breeding welsh harliquin-

1 buff 1yr old layer
i think you all in advance for your help...

I sold a pair of ducks (hen & drake) that were over a year old for $20. The drake was a pure bred khaki and the hen was a pure bred buff. Laying females are the most valuable.

I paid $6 for the buff when I bought her in the Winter. She was about 6 months at the time. It wasn't prime duck buying season though. I am sure you would end up paying more in Spring or Summer.

I would say around $12 for the ducks and $9 for the drakes. As far as the cost of the eggs, you'd have to calculate the difference detween the probably income you'd receive for the eggs minus the cost of feed.

I know here in southern Oregon duck eggs sell at $6 - 8.00 per dozen for consumption.

And Cayugas are supposed to be really fair layers so I would guess at a loss of 200 eggs per year to price them out for loss of income value minus feed costs.

We had a situation, dog killing chickens..

sheriff, Asked how much the bird was worth, my daughter said, $10.00, and the sheriff told the dog owner, pay the girl $20.00. per bird.
cash was transfered and the guy gave her a hen. ( we think he was raising Fightin birds.)

figure the cost of hatching, feed for 8 months, and the eggs selling at .25each

that runs up to serious coin.

Good luck

Were you selling the eggs for eating or for hatching? Hatching eggs are worth alot more than just eating eggs (depending on breed). Were you selling ducklings also?

i was selling eggs for eating pluse furtil welsh harliquin eggs and white crested. i did do the math and this is what i came up with...

female cayuga-$15
eggs per yr -300
per mth 25
$120 a year
hatchery price 6.95

khaki campbell female- $15 each
eggs per yr around 340 each
28 eggs a mth each
$ 120 a yr
hatchery price 5.30 each

welsh harliquin females $35 each drake $30
eggs per yr 350 each
price per dz fertil eggs $65.00
$130.00 each for fertil eggs per mth
$420.00 for ducklings a yr
hatchery price 7.55 each

buff female-$15
eggs per yr 340
28 eggs a month
120.00 a yr

none of this includes the price of feed, water or winter heat lamps
what do you guys think?

I'm not a lawyer but, I believe you can only recoup the "replacement value"- not necessarily what they have cost you.

Also, I'm not sure you could charge for an entire year's worth of eggs.

I would price the cost of replacement birds. I'd look at several hatcheries and average the cost. I'd add an extra bird or two to account for probable loss of some birds during rearing. I'd figure up how long it will probably take for the new ducks to start laying eggs and calculate the missed revenue from eggs during that time. I don't think you can ask for them to pay for a year's worth of eggs when you could have replacement ducks providing eggs in a few months. Of course this only works if you plan to replace the ducks.

If you don't want to replace the ducks, I think you could ask for: cost of ducks (as you listed) + loss of egg revenue x "X" months - the cost of feed x "X" months.

I hope this helps.

I know that some adult ducks can easily sell for 25.00 per bird, as a matter of course. These aren't 'fancies' either.

You could also check online elsewhere to see what some other poultry sellers/hatcheries that sell ADULT ducks ask for them.

I am in a contest right now with USPS, who recently killed my two muscovy hens.............

Best of luck to you..
