need help priceing adult ducks for bad dog owners!

Your best bet would be to start with the hatchery prices for the breeds and then add $10 or $15 to it.
You cant really include the price of feed, light, etc, you can only ask for the replacement value of the birds.

i am making this list to show the dog owner what he cost me and the value. it would also include the fence the dogs busted through and more. kinda try to scare him into fixing the fence and replacing the fence with out me having to take it to court yah know?

Sounds like you're playing it smart. I would definitely ask him to fix/replace the fence with something that is dog-proof.

If the cost of replacing you ducks is too cheap then he won't have any incentive to really fix the problem. On the other hand, it has to be reasonable. Good luck and please let us know how it turns out.

Just for informational purposes....

Khaki Campbells lay about 340 eggs a year and they will lay well for 3 to 4 years
340 x 3.5 (avg)= 1190/12=99.16 dozen at $6 a dozen (avg)=

$595 if you sold all your eggs.
For each Khaki Campbell.

Now research other breeds and their average laying.

Of course, you will be getting your ducks replaced, so that is not really fair, but it takes time to raise the ducks to the age that they were startign to lay.

Get as complicated as you like, but considering the desired effect, make sure it hurts.

I would treat this a simple income analysis.
What's a dozen eggs worth?
How many eggs can you conservatively expect in a year?
What'll it cost to house and feed the birds to get those eggs?

Factor these all together, add 10 % and present that to your "clients."

I don't think a court would order you compensated for all the eggs they might have laid, I think that is a bit excessive, no offense, it just seems much.

Is there any way you could find someone with adult ducks for sale, so you could charge them just actual replacement cost and still have your eggs for sale? That might work out better for both of you-whoever is selling them could really ask a nice price, and you could get laying ducks.

I would definitely charge for the damaged door (materials AND labor) to replace it as well. I just think something like 'eggs yet to be laid' might get scoffed at, you know what I mean?

When I went to court the judge ordered him to pay for the lost eggs and the value of the birds. Some were breeds that were hard to find in our area so we were allowed to use eggbid auction prices and breeder web page quotes and include the price of shipping. For the more common layer types we were allowed to use hatchery prices for started leghorn pullets plus shipping. The judge didn't bat an eye because buying from reputable breeders and hatcheries would be more likely to get me healthy birds of similar age, health and quality than going to a local auction.

I disagree. The loss of those eggs are a loss of income. Judges will normally will award for loss of income.
