I am hatching eggs for the first time. This morning when I woke up I saw that 3 of the eggs had pips. It has been since 8 am and it id now almost 5pm and nothing else. Just the same small holes...I do hear cheeping. What is going on, are they OK? I am worried that they may be sticking to the membranes. What can I do??? PLEASE help!!!

I have never hatched before, and have my first batch under a hen right now. I don't know how much help this is- but from what I am reading from others here on BYC, if they are peeping at the same volume and rate, it is ok and just part of the process. If the peeps get quieter and less frequent it is not a good sign. What are yours doing?

They're fine.

Chicks chirp and peep for a while (24 hours) before actually

making a hole in the egg. Then it can take up to 48 hours for them to actually

hatch. It's torture, waiting on the little guys the hatch!

Good luck!

What is your humidity level? As long as it's 65% or above it should be fine. They take a while, they need time to absorb the blood in the membrane after they pip.

Pipping is hard work! Usually the chick will wiggle and peck at the shell for a minute or less, then rest for quite awhile.
Can you see anything when looking at the egg through the incubator window?

I have had some pipped for over 24 hours before they start to zip
