We bought two India Blue peacocks in the Fall at an auction. They were a surprise to see and the price was right so we jumped in the pool. One has a long four foot train the other only about a foot long so we figure they are different ages. We penned them in a windowed shed w/heat lamp for the winter by themselves as we read this was important and not to let them roam at first. It worked as when we let them out to range in April, they stay within our fenced pond area and roost every night on our deck. They co-exist very peaceably with our hens, ducks and geese. We have a food hopper and water for them on the deck as that's the area they seem to prefer and they come back every night to roost after spending the day in the yard. We are in the Western NY State area and now its mid 50's daytime and cold mid 30's at night. Are they really that adaptable to the cold as some say? I would guess we will try and catch them once the snow comes and pen them in a large heated henhouse we use for our chickens. It has several roosts and one very tall which would give them room with their tail feathers. Can anyone write and give me some cold weather info regarding peacocks? I am worried about them being outside in the rain and mid 30's degrees at night. We are currently looking for 2 peahens to keep them company. Thanks for your help!

Many people let their free range all winter, I keep mine in a large flight with a barn, no heat. They do well in the northern winters.

Just have a area than can go small building,no need for heat.

NOW the greens need heat, but not the india blues

I have a spalding, will he do fine in winter weather? It is already between 19-30 degrees and there is a shelter he can roost with my ducks at night, but I live in massachusetts so it will get colder
