Need help sexing my chicks!!!

Thanks for the close-up of vanilla. That's not a red sex link, that's an EE pullet.

EEs, by definition, is a mutt chicken that carries the blue egg gene. Therefore, they can come in any color you can think of. It's one of the things that distinguishes an EE from the breeds Araucana and Ameraucana, which are breeds with standards of perfection and defined acceptable colors.

Ive been told by 2 farmers yest tht pullet tail feathers come in much sooner than roos. Also, the EE roo pea comb is thicker... I know Adrianna, now Adrian- and he still has a short 'fluffy' tail. However, Darcy- who hatched a day later has a thinner comb and a much larger, feathered out tail and fuller body. Do u know if ne of this is true?

Glad to be of assistance. Adrian is still 100% rooster. Those red patches on his wings are sex-linked, so it's not possible to get a pullet with that coloring. Also, check out that comb!

Darcy's coloring could go either way from the side photo, but the overhead definitely has me leaning cockerel. In the overhead shot, it looks like there are longer feathers growing in on either side of his body just in front of the tail (saddle feathers), and that looks like a pretty thick comb. How many rows of peas does Darcy's comb have? The peas are the little bumps on a pea comb. If you take a close look at him and see that there are long, skinny feathers growing in on his back just above his tail and he has three bumps on his comb, then I think you have a Mr. Darcy there. Also, compare Darcy's legs to Vanilla's. If they are noticeably thicker, that's another sign that it's a boy. In fact, you could do a lot of comparisons of Darcy to Vanilla, as that's def. a pullet. Hope that helps!

Finally, if you're still unsure, take a few other photos of Darcy from other angles and post them on the EE Sexing Hints and Tips thread in this forum. Lots of people will look at him there, and maybe someone will be better at this than I am, or maybe something in the other photos you take will tip them off. Best of luck!

From the more recent pics I am going to say darcy is a pullet.

Can someone please help me with how to tell the hens from the roosters? Is it the cones and beards forming? My chicks are about 9 weeks and some of them are getting pretty big. They are all mixed but most are very nice looking. I got 17 chicks back in late June to add to my 2 layers and they are getting along fine but I am not sure I want to have roosters. I have had chickens for about 3 years now but always got my hens when they were older and we knew what they were, this is my first time with chicks.
