Hey everyone,
I got 4 buff orpington "pullets" 3 weeks ago. right now they are 25 days old, but I feel as though one is obviously a male. He has different feathering and a reddish comb. I need to know for sure if it's a male because I can't keep roosters in my town, and If I am found to have one I may lose my permits for the hens too.

Here are some pictures of the suspected male:

These are what the other 3 look like:

I hope that some more experienced people will be able to say if it's a male or not.
Thanks!

Can't tell. May have to wait a little longer. Sex links are easy but others not so much. When u handle him/her does he act more anxious to get away?

I have always been told (may just be a wives ale but has worked for me!) that if you pick them up by the back of the neck and they have minimal movement they are female or if they vehemently resist they are Roos. Other than that or if I'm on the line with it I wait til one gets very noticeable or crows. Maybe someone else knows a different way?

The difference in the feathering really only counts n tail end. But can't really tell that yet. Problem is that just like us some females are just stronger willed! Using this method I have never ended up with a roo thinking it was a pullet however I have had on I gave away and later found out was not a roo. So I guess I'm saying its not a 100% but so far 99% for me! I live in an area I can't have roo either so I see it as better safe than sorry!

I just found a you tube video talking about the feather sexing. The one I found was a young girl and kina blurry. Guess their are some who are successful with the feather sexing but she said it could only be done within the first couple f days f life. I'll keep looking for s

HI, You are correct, feather sexing must be done asap..48 hrs I think.
It only works for certain breeds.........not Buff Orps........
There is a thread for getting help with breed and sexing.
You might try posting 'HOW TO SEX ORPINGTONS.........." in search.........
I agree...#1 looks roo.....................but these guys can fool you sometimes.
