need help with a dog foot injury!

That's nothing! lol! Just missing a chunk. Keep it clean and dry for a few days, pack with antibiotic ointment or bag balm.. tape or wrap with gauze and tape a sock over the leg. Not worth a vet bill!
 
Looks like he sliced it on something, maybe a fence or broken glass...

It does look pretty bad, but if you can keep a good antibiotic on it and keep it wrapped for a few days it should be ok, if it looks anything worse in a day or two then take him to the vet... I've had many a dog with cut paws from running and they all healed without incident.
