I am getting a new family member!! A great Pyrenees to help with my chickens and also be a buddy for my sweet lab Zuzu. (Zuzu is the daughter in "Its A Wonderful Life") one of our favorite movies! My husband and I can't agree on any names. So anyone have any ideas for us, she is female!? Plus anyone have advice on this breed of dog? I have always had labs, and am new to Great Pyrenees.

How exciting! We are hoping to get a couple golden retriever mix puppies this autumn and we already have 6 dogs right now. Dogs are so amazing!

Our dogs names are Rax (he use to have a brother Arby who passed away). They were named after the restaurants.
Cinnamon and Cedar are brothers.
And then we have Esther (white star on the chest), Blonqita (meaning little white one in Spanish) and Gerbil (we were looking to buy gerbils and go him instead).

We also have owned a Jingle, Snoopy, Cleopatra (Cleo).

The two most important things with our dogs have been:
Daily exercise leads to a happier, healthier, better behaved dog
Make sure they know who is boss from a young age or they will drive you crazy

Best of luck!

Those are awesome names! I love Esther, we named our Easter Egger that already! Lol We ended up naming our Pyrenees Josie! :D She is such a sweetheart!

I'm sure you'll love your Josie. Is she going to be mostly inside or outside? My boy is strictly outside, and he gets hot and dirty in the summer. I try to brush him once a day, and he gets a shave once every June. Do you live in a cold climate? He loves cold weather. When I'm shivering he's wants to play! He's gentle, good with kids, protective, and lazy. He doesn't eat much in the warmer months (barely 4 cups a day), and likes playing in water during this time. When he was a puppy he was a handful, but after he matured he turned out to be a wonderful, loving and very fluffy teddy bear. I hope you enjoy your Great Pyr.

I live in OK and the summers are horrible and humid, but winters are nice and cold. :) She has pretty fur, I am not sure if she is full purebred (she is not very big) but she has that pyrenees fur and I just love it!! Can't wait to see it come winter all fluffy! Mac is a beautiful dog!! Thanks for sharing a picture! :)

We live in South Alabama, and it's very humid here during summer. He still does fine year round as long as he has water to play in during the heat. I never have to worry about him getting cold for sure! He is pure bred, but my mom got him for only a hundred dollars. The most adorable Christmas present ever.

I would love to see a picture of Josie. Is she a puppy?

This my Josie! She is so good with the whole family, cat, chickens, my daughter. Question though. She is being super aggressive towards my lab. Jumping on her and biting. snarling, teeth showing its like the more comfortable she gets with our family the more aggressive she gets towards Zuzu. It's only when we're around, never when I leave them alone. Zuzu whimpers and tries to get in the car with us when we leave now and is always whimpering.
Why is Josie acting like this?
