Need help with a rooster problem

I hope you don't mind my asking. But what are trap nests used for?

They are used to find out which chickens are laying and you can keep a record for breeding purposes. That way you can know who to breed and who to cull which will cause your flock to be much more productive each generation. Here is a great thread which covers it nicely:
