So what is going on with them?! Are they still alive??

I just went through this. I had 25 eggs from a broody hen. Apparently my other hens were laying on top of her while she was setting. Was quite a mess. Anyway i had a bunch of eggs in different stages of incubation. My poor broody couldnt set on all of those so we left her with 9 and took the rest to the incubator. I looked up how to check for viability of the eggs. The article said to use a cup or bowl of baby bottle warm water and gently float the eggs. If they float they are good. If they sink to the bottom they arent viable anymore. We candled them first to check for chicks or embryo and found alot that either never developed or werent good. What we saw with the good eggs was awesome. Some of the eggs jumped, wiggled, and moved. Was exciting to see. Have 3 hatched so far and 6 more to hatch. Mamma hatched 4 for herself before giving up to care for her chicks. Dont know if this helps you or not but it sure helped me. Good luck

True, i read that too. I saw no imperfections in the eggs during candling or on inspection. The float test was quick then they were dried and put back in the incubator. I only found 1 with a small crack and didn't float that one. It was a very helpful test.

Welcome to BYC! The first looks like a quitter, and the second one doesn't look good either unfortunately. Can you try to get clearer pics?

i try to make it clearer as possible and thanks for answering me! 😆

Personally to me if they're on day 17 they look very behind or deceased already. 😥 The shadow should be really dark and hard to candle at this point. The small dark lump looks like the chicks died at some point in development and floated to one side. But it could just be the angles/lighting. Sometimes it's harder to judge with just pictures over the internet and not in person. For me even if I think it's a quitter (and it's not actively oozing) I'll leave it go and check at a later point.
