So yesterday I found my three-year-old Brahma hen in the corner being pecked on, two days ago she was just fine. I snatched her up and brought her inside and took care of her wounds she still is not getting better so I believe she is very sick. I felt her crop and was very big and hardish so I haven't fed her, she hasn't wanted to eat either .It's been 24 hours and the bolge is still there, I'm not actually sure if it's her crop because it's more in the center then on the right side. I left her in and woke up this morning and Felt her crop it felt exactly the same as it did yesterday she stood up for a moment and went Pooh, it was yellowish with some blood in it I'm not sure what's going on with her but she won't eat she won't move she's just sleeping Two days ago she was fine no one else in the flock is sick I have 26 chickens. they normally eat organic laying crumbles but a few days ago I fed them some pork roast and some egg noodles not very old so it
wasn't spoiled or anything like that.I don't normally worm my chickens, I've never seen a sign of them and the weather here is do dry there are no earth worms to catch. Oh, yesterday she was panting continually.I just don't know what to treat her for because it looks like it could be an impacted crop and maybe an internal egg broken. And then maybe worms, all three? What do i treat first, to top it off err are all going out of town in two days. I need some serious advice.

Blood isn't normal in poop, but it might have been intestinal shed. Have they been wormed recently, and if so, what medicine was used? If it was blood in her stool, coccidia, capillaria worms, and enteritis can cause blood in droppings. When chickens eat glass or metal found in the dirt it can cause injury to the GI tract. A fecal test and gram stain could rule out cocci, worms, or bacteria. Feelthe other chicken's crops to make sure the crop is what you are feeling. If a vet is possible, I would take her in. The best wormers are Valbazen used once, and then in 10 days, or SafeGuard liquid goat wormer or equine paste, used for 5 days in a row.

No blood was not in fecal matter. She pooped a yellowish stuff with a little blood similar to the little blood stain you see in eggs.noon of this explains the tennis ball size crop she has after not eating for a day.

If the crop is hard and full, then there probably is an impacted crop. If you can't take her to a vet then here is the post I answered in your other thread that includes instructions on treating impacted crop:

I haven't treated crop problems, but if she has an impacted crop, they usually feel firm and full, and the crop does not empty by morning. Crops can sometimes feel full, but just be slow emptying due to illness or trauma. Water to flush out the crop with crop massage is the best thing to do for an impacted crop instead of giving oil which can cause lipid pneumonia if accidentally aspirated into the lungs. Also don't feed her grains or solid food until the crop goes down. Here are some links to help you, and if you could get her to a vet soon, I would do it in case she needs crop surgery:

She's standing like she's egg bound but errr did an eternal exam and didn't feel anything.

So I took Trogdor (don't ask) to the vet. He said she was not egg bound as he felt around inside just like we did. He also felt her crop and said she was not impacted but that the lump/mass was either a growth like a cyst or tumor. We did put her on anti inflammatory and antibiotics (baytril) for one week just to cover her injuries and or anything else going on. He wanted to remove the growth but st this time she is doing well and don't think this is what caused her sickness as she is doing much better now. The vet also said it wasn't worms and didn't test for it either.

Trogdor, huh? I hope she didn't burninate anything at the vet. ;)

In all seriousness, you could tube some olive oil and massage her crop to break anything up. If it's sour, and you smell a funny odor coming from her, I hear you can treat it with over-the-counter Monistat for the yeast. I read something about it on BYC, but can't recall dosing or anything else, so search for that at the top of the forum if you feel that is of interest.

She *is* standing like she's egg bound... And since you said she passed yolk and blood, I'm wondering if she's got something stuck. Has she passed an egg since that day? Does her vent look red or inflamed? I would soak her for 10-15 minutes in warm, Epsom salt water to let her absorb some magnesium and see if she'll pass anything. Couldn't hurt to do it for a few days just to make sure... or at least until she passes an egg on her own.

Worms are treated best with Valbazen. For a standard chicken, it's .5cc given orally undiluted via syringe (without a needle)... wait 10 days and dose again. Discard eggs for 24 days from first dosage (14 day withdrawal period).

Is she still not eating or drinking? If not, you may have to tube her some Pedialyte to get her through the treatment. <3

I'm curious... Does your vet see chickens or livestock specifically, or is (s)he a small animal vet? I ask, because there is NO WAY to know whether a chicken has worms or not without a fecal test (short of seeing them in the poop).

Hope that helps.... Keep us posted!
