need help with my chicks

I have been raising chickens for years and I still can't tell which is which, unless they are sex-link or I wait until they are about 4 to 6 weeks old. But if you find out. Please let us know.

there production reds cross with a easter egger (easter egger is the cockeral)

So cute!!! They're just a few hours younger than my batch!

Most ways of sexing day old chicks are very imperfect.Vent sexing is probably the most accurate, but it requires extensive training, and is not typically used by the typical chicken owner.

One method that works for SOME breeds of chickens is feather sexing. You look at the developing wings, and boys have one row of feathers, girls have two. It doesn't always work, but I've had pretty good luck with it.

here's a link that shows pictures to explain: http://www.ca.uky.edu/smallflocks/Feather_sexing_practice.html

I've alwyas waited a couple weeks. And I'll lay them flat on their back in the palm of my hand, if they fight u, they are male....if they lay and fall asleep, then they are little ladies :)

Feather sexing is good for the first day or two of the chicks life. the link Sphinx sent you shows the difereent length of flight and guard feathers very well: like piano keys white long and bleck short = female; all long lke a row of white keys = male.

Certain breeds I can wing sex. At 4-5days old if there are two rows of wing feathers it is a pullet. One row is a little shorter than the other. One short single row of wing feathers is a roo.
