Hello all!
So first alittle background info... Last month one of my silkie hens started with bubbles in eyes, and swollen sinuses. Was suggested I get Tylan, which I did, and treated her for 5 days. Also treated with Vetrx and saline drops in her eyes. None of this helped. After almost 2 weeks of being off everything she seemed alittle better, so was hoping she had a virus. Then alittle over a week ago she got worse. Really bad smell from her beak, still bubbles in eyes and some discharge, which is new. I ordered Oxytetracycline from a pigeon site and received that today. I mixed 1 tsp in a gallon of water and put in coop, need to also treat my goose with infection on toe.

What i need help with is making sure they're getting the dose they need. I'll attach pic of package. It says Oxytetracycline 10% powder and 1 tsp per gallon of water. Being it's for pigeons I wanted to make sure I shouldn't be giving more. Thank you for any help!!

It sounds to me more like she has either coryza or could have a secondary infection, such as E.coli. I doubt if the oxytet would help. You probably need sulfadimethoxine, a sulfa antibiotic. But I would try to see a vet and get tested so that you know what to treat. @casportpony might know how much to give.

Hi! I was gonna add to my old post but couldn't find it! Lol. So glad you saw this! If I could get her to a vet I so would but I just don't have the $...which sucks.Ill look up sulfa antibiotics just in case this doesn't help. Thank you!!

Oxytet is better for mycoplasma or MG. There are 4-5 respriatory diseases that are common. MG, coryza, ILT, and infectious bronchitis. Aspergillosis is another one from mold. If it is a virus, nothing will treat it, but it will have to run it’s course. Secondary diseases are common, meaning you could have MG or IB, and get another disease on top of that making her more sick. Rather than using different or wrong, antibiotics it would be better to get her tested. You could call your vet or state vet or local extension agent, or a NPIP tester, on how to get tested. Here is a link for sulfa:
