Need Help With Tylan, Please!

Well, I called the vet office today, but the vets there that see chickens won't be in until Mon. and the one working today didn't feel comfortable prescribing it for me. Guess I'll just wait unitl Mon. and see what the chicken vet says.

if your roo is raspy, he should get treatment asap..

the SQ (skin shot) method described by dlhunicorn is very easy to do..
it's scary the first time..but gets much easier as you do it..
I usually use the IM (muscle shot) but in bantams..sometimes the skin shot is safer.
Tylan 50 costs about 11.00...
read the insert or label for proper storage.

do you know anyone who is a nurse, or vet tech, etc.. who would help you the first time?

No, unfourtunately I don't know a nurse or vet tech. I'm going to just call my chicken vet first thing in the morning and see if I can get the water soluable kind there. If I have to, I'll take Ruby in and have them give her the injection.

dlhunicorn - thank you for all that info - one of my chickens had a foamy eye this morning and I am watching to see if it worsens or if i see any respiratory issues - but I am new to chickens so was looking up everything I could find on "foamy eye". I was so worried I was going to have to give an injection and wouldn't know how to do it.
I should have known I would have friends on BYC to walk me through my chicken fears!

I've decided to treat Ruby and LuLu TODAY!! Well, my DH is gonna do the deed 'casue I'm to scared to try to give the injection. LuLu is the only one of the two that lays any eggs and my other pullets (who have never been in contact w/Ruby & LuLu) aren't quite old enough to lay so no eggs for me for awhile! I don't care though, I love my chickens more then eggs!!
