Chicks are coming mid may. SOOOO..... i've gotten chicks before shipped, but they went to my friend's postoffice because we were splitting, so I wasn't there to pick them up or anything. So 1st: they arrive at the post office. 2nd the people there will call, right? 3rd: I will get there and open up the box. 4th if any are dead, I call the hatchery? 5th bring them home and get them nice and warm! After that, I can handle things! Is that correct? Please tell me if I'm wrong! Thanks!

Step 5B: Food and water. Immediately. You may need to dip a beak or two into the containers but they get the hang of it right quick!

If you have a long ride home you can bring food and water to the PO and feed them in the car. I have been known to...

Looks right to me
Just remember to call the POST OFFice as soon as they open when they are due. That way if they are busy you won't have to wait for a call.
Don't cool them in your car by running the AC

I always call the post office to let them know I'm expecting chicks and want to be called IMMEDIATELY any time of day or night and give them my numbers (cell and home). With my first batch of chicks, they called me at 6am to go pick 'em up, loooong before they open for the day.

good point, this time was my second time picking up chicks from the po They called at 630 I arrived at 710 (I was working until 7am) she said they get in at 4 am I asked that next time they call me at 4 am I would rather come get them then

Go to the post office a few days before and leave your numbers, tell them to call you as soon as they arrive. I waited for a call all day when I thought they were going to arrive but at my post office they only come first thing in the am so I didn't have to wait all day. Wish I would have known that! If they didn't call by 8 am they weren't going to come that day.

I would reverse the order of your last few things. Go to the post office get the chicks, BRING THEM HOME> get them warm and drinking and eating. Dip each of their beaks in the water make sure they are all drinking then give them a little food. THEN call the hatchery if you have any problems. Don't mess around at the post office opening the box and making calls. Get them home and comfortable and then deal with whatever is going on.

All 26 of our chicks were peeping like crazy and happy as clams. Have fun!

I'd also make sure to warm up the brooder before the chicks come. I turned on my heat lamp as soon as the post office called (Sunday AM) and it was nice and toasty warm by the time I got back with the chicks. Makes it easier to warm them up when the brooder is pre-heated!

Good luck.
