need help with what to do with sick chicks

11 week old buff orphingtons are sick. heads dropping and wings hanging, not eating Should I try to nurse back. or put down. My hen was I thought close to death last night but seems to be a tiny bit better this morning. I gave her electrolyts with a dropper.Now I have a rooster looking sick this morning..Do chickens recover? My hen had green watery explosive diarhhea last night x2. A more solid stool during the night. I brought in 9 week old bantams 2 weeks ago, did not know about quarantining. They seem fine however?????? Do I need to find out what they have? I only have 3 Buffs.

Green poop sometimes means they aren't getting enough food, make sure they are eating.

I think you might be right ,there is always food available, but both chickens seemed to stop eating, and become very slow moving and then can not hold up heads. The hen is doing better feedher eletrolyte water and yogurt and immodium for diarrhea, she is now eatin on her own and standing with her head up. My rooster is now doing the same thing very weak can not drink or hold headup

I am a firm believer in giving them a chance to recover, especially if you have a small flock. I know that's not always practical when you have 50 birds, but you don't. Try giving them both a little TLC like you have the hen, and give them some time. If they continue to go down hill and are suffering, then cull the sick birds, do a total clean-up (BLEACH) and try to protect your others birds as best as possible. For future reference, ALWAYS quarentine 4 weeks, spray for mites, ticks, fleas, etc and worm. Advice I was given by an experienced long-time owner, and it has done well for my small flock.

Have you seen any blood in the poop? Ruffling feathers and sometimes looking depressed could be coccidiosis.

no blood, I diagnosed them with botulism, from looking on line and pictures. I saved the hen, force feed her electolytes, then yogurt mixed with electrolyte water, finally because she kept losing all the fluids pooping i decided to give her some immodium . I did not know what was wrong with her at the time but it worked, luckily. The rooster was much worse so we put him down. I think they got it in the warm weather where I put their food and water in the coop. I had noticed a sour smell, but did not apparently catch the wet area in time. I think for now I will stop putting food in the coop at night.

Yes, check the food for any mold. If it's hot and humid the food will mold easily, make sure it's not in the sun also.

Check their crops'. Squishy or firm.
