need help!

6 week old Easter Egger keeping one eye closed and lethargic... what is wrong? I've seperated her, what else should I do? Thanks in advance for your help

Well... with research only, I have started treating all my chicks with Corid and the sickly one is already making improvements and back with her flock... thought I'd update

Sorry that you had no replies to your posts until now. Coccidiosis is fairly common at that age, and the symptoms can include diarrhea or blood in droppings. puffing up or hunched appearance, poor appetite, lethargy, and ruffled feathers around the neck. Corid dosage is 2 tsp of the liquid, or 1.5 tsp of the powder per gallon of water for 5-7 days. Treating the whole flock at once is best. After treatment, give several days of vitamins and probiotics to restore intestinal health. How is your coop or brooder ventilation? Closing eyes can be from irritation fro ammonia fumes from droppings, dust in feed or bedding, or a symptom of a respiratory infection.

Thank you for your reply. They are in a very well ventilated coop that was cleaned and prepared for them... fresh shavings that are low dust. I flushed her eye just in case and saw a hint of blood in her poo yesterday. She had no other respiratory symptoms and het eye had regained open since yesterday

My run did get pretty nasty with all of our wet weathe. We redid the run before sticking the chicks in the coop and run and attempted to make drainage better...I feared that coccidios could be an issue

Coccidiosis is much more common in wet warm weather. You can give a drop or two of the concentrated Corid orally to the sick chick just to make sure it is getting enough of the medication.

Couple questions now that treatment is over... are my chicks more susceptible to cocci because they are treated or is their natural build up is still there? What should I expect? All are well, but if any relapse do treat again?

Chickens can suffer from coccidia any time they are stressed. So, yes, each time they are sick with coccidia, you will need to retreat them.
