Hi I have ducks and they seem to have this black stuff on the edge of their beaks. I looked it up and it said it might have something to do pigmentation and all but I wanted to come on here and ask. I just noticed and it’s really concerning. I also noticed that they kinda avoid closing their mouths and just have them open and when they do close them they do it fast. Any help is much appreciated!

Is their waterer deep enough for their entire beak to fit into? My first thought was that they aren’t able to continually clean their beaks with water but I could be wrong.

Looks like it might be leftover dirt from foraging. My ducks with lighter color bills always have grit, dirt or something in the grooves of their bills
