Need help

Someone dumped a poor little chicken in my yard. No one is claiming it. We have fallen in love with it. Now my daughter has named it and bought a coop. So we need info to help us as we don’t even know what sex it is. Help!

Please post pictures of the chicken and we'll help you with gender and possible breed or breed mix.

Get a bag of non-medicated chick starter and feed that. It is the safest choice and will provide the correct blend of nutrients for all stages of life.

If you intend to keep it and bought a tiny little pre-fab coop, you might want to rethink housing. Especially in your hot climate. You'd be better off building an open-air type of coop. But you can cross that bridge if you come to it after you've been caring for the bird for a bit and make a final decision.

I will take a photo or two today and post. Thanks for replying. We are planning on expanding the coop but it also gets to room around my garden free. It enjoys the safety of the coop at night. I would love to know the sex as I hate calling my chicken “it”.
