Need help!

Ok, so I am building a 3X8 hutch. I have the back and both sides put on the frame. I am dividing it into three cages. How do I do that? I have 1X4's and plywood. The problem is that there is a 2" lip at the top of the cage, so there would be' a gap if something special isnt done. Any help is appreciated.
