If anyone is up out there, could you tell me if I need to be concerned or do anything at this point. I have a hovabator and both temp and humidity have been spot on until lockdown today. I filled both troughs and can't get humidity above 56%. To complicate matters, one of the chicks actually hatched 6 hours after lockdown!! I do not see any more movement in there so I probably won't get more chicks for awhile. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Should I wait until the first chick is dry then remove it and try to add wet sponges?? Just keep an eye on the humidity?? Anything???

I would just add the wet sponge.

Have you done that before? I was thinking I should wait for this little one to dry off, then remove it and add the wet sponge. I don't think anymore will hatch for a day or two.

Okay, the humidity kept dropping and was down to 53% so I plugged the hole in the corner where the automatic egg turner cord was coming through and it is slowly climbing again. Back up to 56%. I will keep watching and hopefully it goes up where it belongs!

no, but I did put humidity high while I had newborn chicks and it didn't hurt them.

Don't worry about the hatched chick. It is fine up to 3 days. It's always very risky to open during lockdown. Is there anyway to add water through the vent whole? From my understanding you need both vent holes open now for air.

I think the vent holes in this bator are around the bottom. This hole I plugged is where the cord for the egg turner to go through. It was technically plugged while the cord was there so I thought maybe it wouldn't hurt for it to be plugged now. Maybe someone who has used this type of incubator would know. I will put the question out there!
Thanks, CJ
