So my incubator has been running for a week keeping a nice 99 until I put my duck eggs in I noticed the temp dropped to 97 after heat loss from opening the top now I can't get it back up to 99 I turned the thermostat up just a bit and temp went to 105 it's only been one day are the eggs still good fresh picked Sunday morning, just want to know until I get the temp back up if this will affect the eggs I'll be checking it every 3 hours now any help would be appreciated

After you open the incubator it is normal for it to take a bit to get temp back up because the eggs are cooler. How long was the temp 105? Do you have any heatsinks in the incubator? I use clean washed rocks ( I run hot water to heat them before putting them in or I use glass jars with lids by filled them with very warm water they help keep the incubator's temp more stable.

I am looking for some sage advice from anyone who has actually used this type of incubator before. I've attached some pics so you can see the type I am talking about.

I was all set to purchase a Genesis Hovabator and then my husband and I were in a farm supply store in our home town enquiring to the clerk as to whether she knew if any used chicken incubators for sale. A lady in the line up over heard our conversation and said her Mom actually had one and was looking to sell it.

To make a long story short, we picked it up this afternoon for $80 CAN.

Anyone had any experience utilizing this particular type of incubator? There is no fan and the eggs have to be turned manually.

Kind thanks in advance!

Is it a old Sears model or maybe a Bower? If you started a new thread asking for help and list what info you can give about make and model in the header I think you will get needed help.

So after a very hectic week and a half of temps going from 99 to 108 then dropping to 85 12 out of 12 eggs are alive and pulsating, incubator is now "stable" hoping for a good hatch in a few more weeks

Day 27 and 10 out of 12 eggs survived my mess and now 6 have pepped and 3 of them have started around their egg getting ready to come on out woo!!!
