I'm a begginer and I need help with which breed is best for me . I want a docile chicken cold and heat hardy and nice layer:)

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

I would highly recommend buff orpingtons. They are my personal favorite breed. Super affectionate and friendly. Great layers and do well in heat and cold. Black australorps are like the buff orpington twin and are worth checking out as well. Definitely feel free to check out our learning center and breed section. https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center https://www.backyardchickens.com/products/category/chicken-breeds

We live in cold temps in the winter, and heat through the summer. I love the sex links, the leghorn, and the EE for these harsh conditions. There are other breeds too. You can google ... breeds best for harsh winters.

The sex links lay an egg a day. The EE's lay a pretty blue/green egg. Wyondottes are also great. The short combs usually mean, winter hardy. All of these breeds that I have mentioned, are sweethearts. Yes! A leghorn! I have to have a leghorn in my flock all the time. May have to put some Vaseline on that comb in the winter, but tough little birds! Here is a photo of one of my girls giving me an egg. And, some of my girls at my window wanting treats. Little beggers. :)

Here is one of my Red Sex Links getting ready to take a bite of that apple..yep, she got it.

Cynthia love the expression on your dogs face, confronting a would be apple thief. You do a great job of cleaning windows too - I'm sure your birds do a lot to mark them up.
