Need Home For My Ducks

OK, I read that wrong. That would not be good for me to have 4 boys and 5 girls!! Will mallards try to mate with pekins? If so I feel really bad for that female pekin.....

She has two male mallards and a pair of Pekins. ( 1 male pekin and one female pekin). She posted pictures on www.petducksrus@yahoo.com but I couldn't get them to load on here.. you can email her and she can send pictures..

I agree lets not judge her, we don't know the entire situation or story. If I could I would help I live 1hr East of her. But I already have 11 ducks, and with my husband approaching the end of his contract in Afghanistan as a civilian contractor, or possibly staying another year

should he get a relocation assignment we may have to reduce our flock if we can't find some place like where we live now or on a pond/lake, and my bunnies. (12 house rabbits, 2 pair up for adoption) So, I wouldn't meet her requirements, Lord knows it will kill me if I had to make that decision to reduce my animals. Yes, ducks are a lot of work especially when you have ducklings born late in the season and can't go outside until spring. But it's worth it, but for some they may feel they bit off more then they can chew. Let's agree to disagree, like we do for those that raise ducks for meat, and for those who raise them for pets, to those that raise them for eggs. It's a choice, and she may feel this was/is the best choice. At least she is choosing what is best for the ducks and what she wants to see best for them instead of releasing them any old place and not caring what happens to them. Right??

I emailed her with some tips on rehoming them. And I'm trying to get contact info for a guy in the area that has over 20 ducks (not for meat) and wants more, that might be ideal since she has 3 boys and only 1 girl. He actually wanted the 3 new ducks I have but the owners chose me because they wanted them to be pets rather than part of a crowd.
Otherwise she was asking me questions about keeping them through the winter and how to house them and I think I gave her some good easy ideas. I can't take in 3 boys and a girl but I did offer to take the girl if she decides she can keep them. I hate to think of that poor girl being with 3 boys forever.

This whole story and drama is just another proof that taking on raising domestic poultry just for fun disregarding their utilitarian value and purpose (I do not want them eaten) is just what it always is:

A BAD IDEA

Yes. And the correct ratio of drakes to hens is 3 or more hens per drake. If you adopt her 3 males and 1 female, you would need AT LEAST 8 more hens.

I must be misunderstanding you. It sounds like you're implying that people cannot have ducks for pets?

Anyhow, maybe OP could suggest that she needs to consider allowing them to go to two different homes? Because of the MtF ratio that is. So that they wouldn't have to go to someone who'd have to have 8 more females.

It is a sad situation but it's nice to see that she's owning up and doing something about it.
