Need ideas for attaching HWC to thin edge on metal carport

I'd use nuts & bolts with washer on HWC side to secure. Also, on vertical posts I'd put strips of some sort between screw heads and HWC to give it more strength. At a minimum use a washer for each screw.

Hi. There are washers on all the screws except those first two in the picture. They were test screws.

It is a little different then what I was thinking, I thought you meant the roof over hang.

The clips still might work but I agree with a 1x1 wood over it all. Might be the best securest. The clips will not do much other then what is already there to hold it if a predator gets to it.
Here I wouldn't worry about it in my urban neighborhood but I think you are more in the woods.

I added pictures below.

Hi everyone. My husband is mostly done attaching all the HWC to our metal carport turned chicken run. However, we have one problem. Along the top of the carport, there is a thin metal edge just below the roof. It is some sort of trim piece. The HWC goes up overtop of this edge, however, we cannot attach the HWC with screws to this edge because it is so thin. I am trying to figure out how to attach this. Any ideas? I found something called metal U clips online. They look like they might work but I am wondering if anyone has done this and has a better idea? The HWC is 1/2" so it has to be something small. We don't want to leave it unattached, so we need to come up with a solution quickly as we hope to move the chickens by the end of this week. Thanks!

Might be something you could use.

My husband did try that on the other side, however the screw sticks way out. This metal trim piece is very, very thin.

I did what you're wanting to do with machine screws. I attached HWC to a metal shed, the metal of which is thinner than what you have. You can get a small box of machine screws with nuts for $4-5 at Lowes. 1/2"-3/4" #8 would do it. Get some washers and you'll be good to go. Drill a hole and bolt together. Will be stronger than clips. At that height you really don't need a 1" strip.

Thank you! That sounds like what we need. My husband did something similar when he attached the HWC to the metal legs of the car port. But they are very heavy duty. I will have him look for some.

I took a couple of pictures. Mine's not HWC, but using a washer it will work just as well on HWC.
