Need ideas for converting brooder box into chicken coop

My husband built a sturdy 4ft by 4ft box when our chickens were little. Now that they are larger and are ready to be outside now I am looking for a way to use this brooder box as the start of a chicken coop. I would like to use it because it is just sitting in the garage taking up space. The box is only two feet deep and the entire lid is hinged. We have 9 chickens we need to house.

I for the life of me cannot think of an easy and cost effective way of making this into a useable coop. I want to get this finished this week before back to school. Right now the chickens are spending the night in the garage and I am carrying them down to their run every morning.

Does anyone have any ideas? I feel that as it sits, it would not have enough room. (We have 5 larger breed and 4 smaller breed chickens) and some added space will be needed, but like I said I cannot come up with anything on my own.

There are literally hundreds of coop ideas in our coops section. If your climate is like mine, you could set it on its side and attach it to one side of your run, then use the door to roof part of the run, next to the coop, and perhaps extend the wall a couple of feet on the weather side. If it opens to your weather (windward) side, it will probably provide enough rain protection. If you live where winter means snow and cold, you should probably purchase an 8x8 or larger shed and save the brooder box for later (isolating a sick or injured chicken or a broody, for example) or use the wood to make nest boxes, a nice wide roost and maybe some shelves, both for them and for supplies.
