Another good fabric. I don't have any experience with it, so I don't know if it is weldable (with RF or PVC cement) like Herculite or if it is as tough. But I know it is used for roll out awnings and such. Either would probably do well for your application.

This is what I was going to suggest. Canvas (unless its marine grade) will mildew eventually. Sunbrella is a solution dyed acrylic that is colorfast and does not mildew.

It can be sewn on a home sewing machine, but you need an 18 needle and you should use upholstery thread.

A fabric store in Crovallis Oregan called The Rainshed carries it by the yard. They specialiize in sport and outdoor fabric and they sell hardware too.

Trust me, grommets are a pain to install unless you have a setting machine and you need to buy a grommet cutter as well, which can be expensive for a one time project. You could also use D-rings or side clicks as fasteners. The Rainshed has all of this stuff.

I think sunbrella would be pretty on your coop (and let's face it - I'm all about how it looks as well as how it functions). Your idea sounds totally do-able and attractive as well.

I don't know where you are located, but here in Mpls there is a fabric wholesale warehouse and they carry sunbrella at remnant prices. I know it can get quite expensive to purchase retail, so you may want to consider looking for it in mill-end sizes, which would totally work for your application.

I am interested in how this turns out - keep us posted.
